Tottenham make enquiry for Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini
Speaking on the Transfer Window Podcast, reputed journalist Ian McGarry has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur are interested in Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini and have made enquiry for him already.
Tottenham are in the market for a new manager following the sacking of Jose Mourinho last month. While Ryan Mason has been placed in charge as interim boss until the end of the season, a number of names have already been linked with the permanent role, with Gasperini now emerging as the latest target.
The 63-year-old has been with Atalanta for five years now, having taken over in 2016 and has turned them into one of the best attacking teams in Serie A. Over the past couple of seasons, La Dea have also emerged as a contender for the Champions League spots and are currently second in the table this term.
McGarry goes on to claim that Tottenham have already enquired about the possibility of the Italian taking over next season.
“We also understand here at the Transfer Window Podcast, that another manager who is of great interest to Tottenham and indeed who they have enquired about, ironically is also in Serie A, is Gian Piero Gasperini who has been in charge of Atalanta who have become something of a hero/surprise club in European football in the past few years.
“Gasperini is not the young/dynamic coach which Tottenham have effectively described to agents as their preference. However, he is a very experienced manager and he’s certainly an interesting character who is dependent on a hyper-offensive possession-based style of play.”
Speaking further on the topic, McGarry insists that while it might be difficult for Tottenham to pry Gasperini away from Atalanta, the Italian has responded positively when approached by an intermediary.
“Gasperini would be difficult to extract from Atalanta, but the lure of a Premier League job given that he’s coming towards the end of his career, he’s 63 and it is our information that a high-profile agent in Europe has informed Gasperini of Spurs’ interest and he has responded positively.”

Gasperini has done great with a modest squad at Atalanta. His team is one of the most entertaining ones to watch due their high-pressing and relentless attacking intent. He may not have won anything in his career so far but the work he has done in Bergamo is praiseworthy. And, if he is open to joining Spurs, he could be a very good candidate to take the club forward.
