Tottenham Hotspur still in the fray for Ajax boss Erik Ten Hag

Speaking on the View from the Lane podcast on The Athletic, Jack Pitt-Brooke has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur are still monitoring Ajax Amsterdam manager Erik ten Hag despite him penning a contract extension with the Dutch giants.

Spurs are in need of a new manager following Jose Mourinho’s sacking last month. Ryan Mason will serve as the caretaker boss until the end of the season. It would appear that the club’s list of potential managers has now been whittled down to just four names.

“The shortlist is Erik ten Hag, Roberto Martinez, Ralph Ragnick and Graham Potter.”

Town Hag recently penned an extension at Ajax. It appeared to be the end of the road for Spurs to sign him but that however appears to be far from the case. In fact, Pitt-Brooke has named him as the most likely manager to take over.

“I know Ten Hag signed that new contract at Ajax a few weeks ago, but I think he is probably the most likely of these four to get the job.”

Not an easy job

The 51-year-old is fresh off winning the double with Ajax. Spurs will however represent a different proposition and it remains to be seen if he will be entrusted with the task of rebuilding us.

Ten Hag’s job will not be easy given the uncertainty surrounding Harry Kane. The English ace is keen to leave the club this season in what could be a devastating blow for the new manager set to take over.

Among the names in contention, Ralf Rangnick stands out given his previous work at both TSG Hoffenheim and RB Leipzig. Reputed journalist Alasdair Gold, however, had already revealed that it is unlikely, given his reluctance to leave Germany.

Who we ultimately end up with remains to be seen.

Spurs’ hunt has not been without its fair share of failures. We missed out on Julian Nagelsmann to Bayern Munich while Brendan Rodgers has ruled himself out from contention (h/t Daily Mail).

Another target, Jesse Marsch, is also set to snub Tottenham in favour of RB Leipzig. Ten Hag’s experience has largely been limited to the Eredivisie. However, he is amongst the best names on the list and could be just the want to take us up a notch.  (h/t Daily Star).
