Transfer News: Tottenham contract rebel Elliot Thorpe on Leicester City’s radar
According to news from Football Insider, Tottenham Hotspur sensation Elliot Thorpe, who is nearing his contract expiry, has emerged as a transfer target for Leicester City.
Thorpe joined the Tottenham youth academy from Cambridge United in 2013. The versatile midfielder has made steady progress through the youth ranks at the club and after a couple of years with the Under-18s, broke into the reserve team last season.
However, it is the ongoing campaign during which he has enjoyed regular minutes, racking up 18 Premier League 2 appearances in which he has scored two goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)
However, the 20-year-old is yet to make his first-team bow for Tottenham, although he was part of training sessions with the seniors when Jose Mourinho was in charge while interim manager Ryan Mason is also well aware of his potential.
Thorpe has been particularly impressive in recent weeks, with his two-goal display against Liverpool last month being a particular standout. However, the 20-year-old is staring at an uncertain future at Tottenham as his contract is set to expire at the end of the season.
With Thorpe yet to agree an extension with Tottenham, there is a good chance that he could be on his way out at the end of the season. And, the report states that the young Welshman has no shortage of suitors with clubs from England and abroad interest.
Among those keen on the 20-year-old are Leicester City, who are keeping close tabs on Thorpe’s contract situation.
