Tottenham will target Brendan Rodgers if Leicester miss out on Champions League

According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur will make an attempt to snare away Leicester City manager Brendan Rodgers in the summer if the Foxes miss out on Champions League football for next season.

Tottenham are currently without a full-time manager having let go of Jose Mourinho last month. Former midfielder Ryan Mason has taken over on an interim basis until the end of the season, with the club searching for a new manager.

Brendan Rodgers has been high on the wishlist of Tottenham, considering the exemplary work he has done at Leicester since taking over in early 2019. However, the Northern Irishman had pledged his future to the Foxes when links initially emerged. Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy, though, is hoping to launch another attempt to bring him in should the Foxes miss out on the Champions League for next term. (h/t Daily Mail)

As things stand, Leicester are currently fifth in the table, dropping down from third, after they lost to Chelsea earlier this week while Liverpool beat Burnley to rise to fourth. The Foxes are a point behind the Blues in third and level with the Reds but behind on goal difference heading into the final matchday.

And, Leicester, as fate would have it, face Tottenham on Sunday in the last match of the season. They well need a win if they are to have any hopes of finishing in the top four. Spurs, meanwhile, also need to win if they are to secure European football, having dropped to seventh after the defeat to Aston Villa.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

Leicester missed out on Champions League football on the final day of the last season as well. And history could repeat again, should Tottenham prevail at the King Power Stadium on Sunday.

Crashing their UCL hopes could end up opening the doors for Spurs to bring in Rodgers as Mourinho’s replacement. A huge clash beckons for both teams.
