PSG have no intentions of letting Mauricio Pochettino return to Tottenham

Speaking to BBC, reputed football journalist Guillem Balague has claimed that PSG have absolutely no intentions of letting Mauricio Pochettino leave amid Tottenham links.

Pochettino was sacked by Tottenham in November 2019 following a poor start to the 2019/20 campaign, with the 49-year-old getting replaced by Jose Mourinho. However, the Portuguese tactician lasted only 17 months at the club before getting axed last month.

Ever since, the hunt for a new full-time manager has been going on. And, reports earlier this week claimed that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy was plotting a sensational swoop to bring Pochettino back to the club. (h/t BBC)

The Argentine, since leaving Tottenham, spent a year out of management before taking over the reins at PSG earlier this year. He led the club to two trophies in his short time in charge although they did fail to win the Ligue 1 title. However, he is now being lined up a return to Spurs, with contacts being established. Balague, though, has claimed that PSG have absolutely no wish to let Pochettino go, having appointed him the manager only a few months ago.

“Returning to England is a goal, but he’s started planning next season with PSG decision makers. PSG have got no intention to let him go and are surprised by the amount of coverage about something they are not contemplating.”

While Pochettino coming back would certainly be greeted with pleasure from Tottenham fans, any development of such sort looks unlikely if Balague’s statements are to go by. It remains to be seen if Levy & co. are able to pull off the audacious move to get him back to the club.
