Gareth Bale backs Tottenham star Joe Rodon to become top player in PL

Speaking at Wales’ UEFA Euro 2020 camp (h/t Express), Gareth Bale has claimed that Tottenham defender Joe Rodon will grow into one of the best central defenders in the Premier League.

Rodon arrived at Tottenham last summer from EFL Championship side Swansea City. The Welshman endured a difficult debut season in London, having had to struggle to feature on a regular basis.

But when given the opportunity, the young defender showed a lot of potential, even though he managed just 14 appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions.

Bale, who was back at Tottenham for the 2020/21 season, on a year-long loan deal from Real Madrid shared the dressing room with his fellow countryman at the club. And, it seems like the 31-year-old wing-wizard has been left mighty impressed by Rodon, as he has tipped the youngster to become a top player in the Premier League. (h/t Express)

“[Joe Rodon] has come on leaps and bounds this season and made such a progression in his football. He has got better and better and looks like a real strong defender, sharp, and he is looking better and better. He will be one of the top defenders in the Premier League in years to come.

“This is another step in the right direction for him and something he wants to test himself with. I am sure he will do fantastic for us.”

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

As iterated earlier, Rodon showed quite a lot of promise in his handful of appearances for Tottenham. With time, experience and exposure, he should grow into a regular fixture at the heart of the Spurs’ defence in the long run. Hopefully, the 23-year-old is able to play regularly under whoever the next Tottenham manager will be.
