Transfer News: Fabio Paratici tried helping Tottenham Hotspur by trying for Gianluigi Donnarumma deal

Speaking on the Here We Go podcast, Fabrizio Romano (h/t The Express) revealed that Fabio Paratici explored the possibility of signing Gianluigi Donnarumma on a free transfer for Tottenham Hotspur.

Paratici is set to join Spurs as their new Director of Football, with an official announcement still pending. He spent 11 years with Juventus and was deemed a vital part of their 9 straight Serie A title wins.

And now, he is primed for a move to Spurs where he would look to aid Daniel Levy and the new manager with transfer related activities. He has reportedly started working on transfers already, with some fringe players lined up for sale.

But he has also looked at potential incomings, with a last gasp effort at trying to sign Donnarumma for Spurs. The Italian goalkeeper is set to leave AC Milan this summer as a free agent as he has not renewed his contract, with PSG being his likely destination.

No Donnarumma for Spurs

However, it could have been different as Paratici eyed the 22-year-old as a potential replacement for Hugo Lloris. The Frenchman is in the last 12 months of his deal and Spurs are said to be parting ways with him next year.

The club also looked at Sam Johnstone of West Brom, Dean Henderson of Manchester United, and Mike Maignan of Lille. The latter has agreed on a deal with Milan to replace Donnarumma in the starting XI. (h/t The Express)

The move for Donnarumma reportedly fell through because he was not keen on a move to the Premier League. That’s a shame for Spurs because he could have really been the man to hold down the No.1 spot for the club for years to come.

But it seems like Levy and co. would have to explore elsewhere if they want to replace Lloris in the future. However, this news really shows how eager the incoming Paratici is to help Spurs in their rebuild and he seems like a great appointment by Levy.
