Tottenham to sign a new right-back, centre-back claims Fabrizio Romano

Speaking on the latest episode of the Here We Go podcast, reputed journalist and transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has shed light on the two positions that Tottenham are looking to strengthen this summer.

The 2020/21 campaign was yet another underwhelming one for Tottenham as the club finished manager-less, outside of the top six and lost the Carabao Cup final.

A crunch summer awaits as Tottenham chairman will not only need to appoint the right man as the next head coach but also make some significant investment into the squad in order to address several key positions.

Speaking on the matter, Romano has now claimed that Tottenham are likely to be in the market for a new right-back and another centre-back this summer window.

“Tottenham will sign a new right-back, new centre-back. They want something new in defence, so they’re going for a new centre-back.”

Strengthening both positions makes a lot of sense for Tottenham. Serge Aurier has declared that he will be on the move this summer, leaving Matt Doherty as the only senior right-back in the squad. At centre-back, Spurs have to find an upgrade on the likes of Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier, who can grow into a long-term replacement for Toby Alderweireld.

Speaking on potential outgoings, Romano name-checked Moussa Sissoko as one player who could be on his way out of the club.

“And maybe Sissoko could leave the club, so they will look for some solution for him if the right proposal will arrive.”
