Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur interested in a move for Kalvin Phillips

According to Italian publication Tutto Juve (h/t Yorkshire Evening Post), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in a transfer move for Leeds United midfielder, Kalvin Phillips.

The 25-year-old has impressed for the Whites under Marcelo Bielsa. His notable Premier League performances this season earned him a call-up to the England squad for the 2020 UEFA Euros.

And there, he memorably starred for them in their opening group game against Croatia. The defensive midfielder was paired with Declan Rice and made adventurous runs forward as the Three Lions secured a 1-0 win.

It now seems like he has caught the eye of Spurs. Daniel Levy saw Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg join the club under Jose Mourinho just last season from Southampton.

Spurs after Kalvin Phillips?

But it is under no doubt that Phillips would further strengthen that position if he were to make the move to N17. He can slot in a double pivot with the Dane and provide competition for the current crop of midfielders at the club.

This news should be taken with a pinch of salt by the Spurs faithful. Just a shade over three weeks back, Phillips stated his desire to play in Europe with his boyhood club, Leeds United.

Kalvin Phillips wants UCL and UEL football at Leeds, something that Spurs cannot offer him next season.

“I want to be a player that’s got a lot of games to his name; but I want them to be games that mean something. And I want to play in the Europa League, the Champions League. With Leeds, and the way that we’re heading, there’s no reason why we shouldn’t.”

The aforementioned statement, which he gave during an interview with GQ (h/t Leeds Live), does not indicate a man that is desperate to leave his club.

However, he did mention his dream of playing in the UEFA Champions League as well as the Europa League. Unfortunately for Spurs, they would not be playing in either competition next season.
