Nuno Espirito Santo leading candidate for Tottenham manager job

According to exclusive news from the Daily Mail, Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as the serious leading candidate to become the next Tottenham Hotspur manager.

Tottenham have been on the hunt for a new manager for over two months now, following the sacking of Jose Mourinho. Several candidates like Brendan Rodgers, Erik ten Hag, Antonio Conte have been considered but there has been no success as of yet.

However, it seems like there may have been progress made in the search though, with the aforementioned report now claiming that Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as the frontrunner to become the next Tottenham manager.

The 47-year-old has been without a club since the end of the last season when he quit his post as the Wolves head coach. Nuno had been the manager of Wolves for four years, having taken over in 2017. In his very first season, the Portuguese led the club to promotion back to the Premier League and followed it up with back-to-back seventh-place finishes in 2018/19 and 2019/20.

The season gone by though, was a bit disappointing for the Midlands outfit as they finished 13th in the table. This has led to apprehensions over his potential appointment. But those pushing for him have pointed towards Raul Jimenez’s injury and Diogo Jota’s departure as reasons for Wolves’ downslide. In fact, the report even claims that Daniel Levy and director Fabio Paratici have backed the Portuguese as well.

Brighton & Hove Albion’s Graham Potter is another name that is being considered. But the scales are currently tipped in favour of Nuno.

While he did do a good job at Wolves, the 47-year-old would again be a pragmatic, defence-oriented manager like Jose, with his teams known to play on the counter-attack. However, Nuno is someone who is not afraid of blooding the youngsters, so that is something that the Spurs faithful can look forward to, should he indeed be made the manager.
