Transfer News: Tottenham contact Sampdoria for Mikkel Damsgaard
Damsgaard came through the youth ranks at FC Nordsjaelland. He left his boyhood club to join Sampdoria last year and has impressed in Italy. To date, the 20-year-old has managed two goals and four assists from 35 Serie A games while scoring three in five matches for the Denmark national team as well. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Damsgaard has been one of the bright spots for the Denmark side in the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020, scoring a stunning strike in the 4-1 win against Russia that sent them through to the knockout stages. And, the 20-year-old’s performances seem to have alerted a number of top clubs across Europe, with Tottenham and AC Milan also taking an interest in him.
While uncertainty looms large at Tottenham due to the absence of a full-time manager, the club did appoint Fabio Paratici as the managing director of football, with the Italian set to oversee the transfer side of things moving forward. Given his contacts and network in Italy, Spurs, of late, have been linked with a number of players from Italy such as Manuel Locatelli and Domenico Berardi. (h/t Express)
Damsgaard, too, now has emerged as a target. And, while his numbers might suggest otherwise, the 20-year-old can be a handy addition to this Tottenham side with his pace, dynamism and attacking verve.
With Erik Lamela and Steven Bergwijn enduring difficult campaigns last time out, and Gareth Bale’s loan spell also coming to an end, there is certainly room for adding another wide player to the ranks this summer.
