Tottenham admire Roberto Mancini even as Nuno Espirito Santo talks continue

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur admire Italy manager Roberto Mancini even as talks to appoint Nuno Espirito Santo as the next head coach continue.

It has been a rough couple of months for Tottenham as the search for the permanent replacement for Jose Mourinho kept on hitting roadblocks and getting stretched. There have been false dawns, as was the case with Antonio Conte and Paulo Fonseca, but according to the report, talks are progressing with Nuno Espirito Santo.

In fact, Alasdair Gold has even claimed that barring any major turnaround, the Portuguese, who left his job as the Wolves manager at the end of the season, will be the next Tottenham boss.

Despite things progressing well, Tottenham would do well to keep other options at hand in case a deal hits a snag. And, as per the aforementioned report, Italy boss Roberto Mancini is someone that the club admires.

Mancini has tasted plenty of success in his managerial career, first with Inter Milan then in England with Manchester City. Having taken over the Italian national team at a difficult moment, the 56-year-old has turned them into an unbeatable unit and one of the favourites to win the ongoing UEFA Euro 2020.

Someone with his credentials and pedigree, and proven track record in the Premier League would certainly be of appeal for Tottenham.

But, as things stand, it is Nuno who is the frontrunner to become the next Tottenham boss. The 47-year-old Portuguese tactician did a fine job at Wolves in his four years at the club. However, the 2020/21 term wasn’t the most memorable one for him or the club while his defence-first approach is also a bit of a concern after the Mourinho era.
