Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks open to exit amid links to Aston Villa

As per a report by The Athletic (Subscription Required) [h/t Birmingham Live], Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Harry Winks is open to a temporary exit if it means more playing time.

The English midfielder is linked with a move to Premier League side Aston Villa. Dean Smith wants to strengthen his team in the middle of the park and Winks, who is not a regular at Tottenham, is eyed as a potential transfer target.

Winks has been at Spurs since the age of 6. Now 25, he is still not a cemented name in their starting XI, making just 9 starts under Jose Mourinho and Ryan Mason last season.

But that can change at Villa, where he can get more time on the grass. Spurs already have a stacked midfield, with Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg having a stellar first season.

Winks to Villa?

Apart from the Dane, Moussa Sissoko, Tanguy Ndombele, Dele Alli, and Giovani Le Celso are options for Santo to field in the midfield. If Winks does end up moving to Villa, it is a move that could benefit all parties.

The Spurs man can get some minutes under his belt and a potential opportunity to impress the new boss at N17, while the Lilywhites would see their midfielder get experience and regular game time at a top-division club.

Even if Winks stays, fans would hardly have any complaints. He can prove to be a dependable option to deploy in cup games as well as a potential competitor for league starts.

More Tottenham Hotspur News:

The gap between Spurs and Villa was seven points last season. It would be interesting to see if Daniel Levy and Fabio Paritici sanction a move for Winks to a team that can provide them with an outside challenge for European spots next season.
