Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur could make it difficult for Real Madrid to sign Jules Kounde
According to a report by Spanish publication Sport (h/t BBC), Tottenham Hotspur are willing to offer a significant transfer fee for Jules Kounde, which can make it difficult for Real Madrid to land the defender.
Spurs and Madrid are both keen on signing the French centre-back. However, the Lilywhites are willing to offer as much as £51million, which would be ‘beyond’ what Madrid can spend in the summer.
Spurs could really use a centre-back and Kounde would be a quality addition to their squad. Ever since Jan Vertonghen left for SL Benfica, Toby Alderweireld has been partnered by Eric Dier or Davinson Sanchez.
But Kounde, 22, would a different dynamic to their defence- having come from Spain- and would future-proof that area. Alderweireld is himself linked with an exit this summer.
Kounde to Spurs would be big
The Belgian international has asked to leave the club during this transfer window (h/t Football.london), which could see Spurs without their trusted centre-back for next season. In such a case, Kounde’s signing would almost look like a necessity.
Daniel Levy and Fabio Parataci are apparently after another defender in Takerhiro Tomiyasu. However, Football.london reported earlier this month that if Tottenham do sign him, they could use the Japanese as a defensive right-back instead of a central defender.
Kounde came to La Liga in 2019 from Girondins de Bordeaux, and has impressed the footballing world since then. Interest from top clubs does not come as a surprise considering his age and potential.

And if Spurs can afford an outlay such as the one above, then there is no reason why the Frenchman should not be at N17 next season under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo.
