Barcelona showing interest in Tottenham Hotspur star Giovani Lo Celso
According to Fichajes (h/t Football.london), Spanish giants Barcelona are keeping tabs on Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso.
The Argentine international is coming off a successful Copa America campaign that saw the country win their first major trophy in 28 years. The midfielder played in all but one game and also started the final against Brazil.
Rife with financial difficulties, Barcelona have a few tough calls to make this summer. This has however done little to dampen their aspirations of bringing in new players. The Catalans missed out on Georginio Wijnaldum and have now turned their attention to Lo Celso.
Lo Celso joined Spurs initially on loan in 2019 before his move was eventually made permanent the following winter. He has since gone on to make 65 appearances for the club, making seven goals and four assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)
Barcelona are keen to bring in a new creative midfielder, who can connect with attackers and boost the attack. Lo Celso certainly excels at that and has also shown that he can connect well with Lionel Messi. The Barcelona legend could certainly use such a sidekick at the Nou Camp.
If Lo Celso’s performances at the Copa America is anything to go by, Spurs should not entertain any thought of the 25-year-old’s departure. With injuries behind him, he could be on the verge of having a difference-making 2021/22 season.
With his contract running until 2025, Tottenham have a huge advantage when it comes to negotiations. As yet, Lo Celso hasn’t shown any inclination that he is seeking to leave. Whether Barcelona can even afford him is another factor to consider.

Both Moussa Sissoko and Harry Winks could be on their way out this summer. Nuno Espirito Santo is keen to build a young team and Lo Celso could have a big part to play in 2021/22. In Harry Kane and Son Heung-Min, Spurs already have their dynamic duo. Whether Lo Celso will also join them as the third musketeer remains to be seen.
