Tottenham fans react after Dane Scarlett scores vs Leyton Orient
Tottenham Hotspur saw their first game under new manager Nuno Espirito Santo end in a 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient, with Dane Scarlett impressing on the field.
Spurs’ finally got underway under the Portuguese in their first pre-season game contesting for the JE3 Foundation Trophy at the Breyer Group Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Nuno fielded a team combined with a number of Under-23 players and a few first-team stars interspersed, lining the side up in a 4-1-4-1 setup – a departure from his three-man defensive system at Wolves. But it was teenage forward Dane Scarlett that made the big impression in the first period, scoring in the 38th minute to Tottenham in front.
And while it looked like the Lilywhites would hold on to their lead, especially after substitute goalkeeper Alfie Whiteman made a stunning stop in the second period, Leyton Orient managed to equalise through Ruel Sotiriou with 18 minutes left on the clock, meaning the trophy ended up being shared between the two teams.
Scarlett, who made his first-team debut for Tottenham under Jose Mourinho last season, took another positive step in his fledgeling career. A good pre-season could very well put him in the frame of things for regular involvement when the season kicks off in less than a month.
