Tottenham Hotspur set their sights on Cristian Romero

According to Argentinian publication TyC Sports (h/t Dailymail), Tottenham are looking to sign Cristian Romero from Atalanta. The English club have offered Atalanta £34m and a further £8m in bonuses. The report claims that the centre-back has been in ‘advanced’ talks to go to Tottenham.

Atalanta’s stance

Tottenham’s interest in the player was reported mid-July by journalist Fabrizio Romano. The report confirmed that the player has agreed personal terms with spurs.

Romano later revealed that Atalanta value their player at around £47m. Adding that both clubs will continue negotiating.

Later, Atalanta’s CEO Percassi came out and put forward the club’s stance. He stated that they won’t budge despite the interest in the player. He also added that Romero will stay if they do not receive the right bid. Percassi and the club value him as one of the best centre-backs.

Atalanta signed Romero in 2020. The deal was a two-year loan from his parent club, Juventus. However, Atalanta have confirmed that they will use the buy option to sign him permanently. Hence, having the right to sell him.

Cristian Romero

In 2016, Romero made his senior debut for Belgrano. After spending a year at Genoa he was bought by European giants, Juventus.
