Tottenham lining up a £21million bid for Denmark winger Mikkel Damsgaard
Tottenham Hotspur have shown their interest in Mikkel Damsgaard. According to La Republica via Calciomercato (h/t Football.london), the club are weighing up a bid of around £21million for the Dane. The bid is set to be below the valuation of Damsgaard’s current club, Sampdoria.
The Italian side wants to keep hold of the winger. However, a verdict to sell might be on the cards due to the financial impact of COVID-19.
On Damsgaard
The 21-year-old is a graduate of Danish club Nordsjaell. The player came through the ranks of the club. In 2017, at just 17 years of age, he made his debut for the first-team.
Italian side Sampdoria signed Damsgaard in 2020. So far, the player has played 35 games for the club, scoring 2 goals and 2 assists. The player was in the headlines during the UEFA Euro 2020. He was a vital part of the Denmark squad which reached the semi-finals of the competition.
Damsgaard scored an absolute peach of a free-kick to open the scoring in the semi-final against England. While Denmark ended up on the losing side, England fans will vividly remember his face.
The player has played mostly on the left-wing. However, is capable of playing in an attacking midfield role too. Hence, if the move materializes, the Dane could be an understudy to Heung-min Son.
Sampdoria’s valuation and Tottenham’s bid
The article says Sampdoria has valued Mikel Damsgaard at around £29.9million. Journalist Fabrizio Romano mentioned that a proposal of around €25-30m will arrive for the Danish star.
