Transfer News: Tottenham can complete Cristian Romero deal today

According to transfer news from Express, Tottenham could wrap up the deal for Cristian Romero today. The Argentine has already completed the first part of his medical in Italy. Now, he will fly to London and complete the rest of the formalities and sign a five year deal with the club, costing Spurs £47million.

A Copa America winner, Cristian Romero bossed the backline for Argentina in the competition. However, one shouldn’t really be surprised as the talented defender is among the best young defenders in Serie A. He was a part of the exciting Atalanta side that is making its mark over the last few seasons.

Spurs recently lost one of their best defenders in Toby Alderweireld to Al Duhail. That left the club with some sub-par options such as Davinson Sanchez and Eric Dier. And it could be the reason why Fabio Paratici has been after Romero for the most part of the transfer window. Spurs are now believed to have finally agreed on a £47million deal that convinced Atalanta to let go of their star defender.

Now, it would seem that the deal could be closed as early as today. Reputed journalist Fabrizio Romano gave an update on the situation where Romero is said to have completed the first part of his medical in Italy. He will now fly to London and complete the other half. Post that, he will sign the five-year contract (h/t Express).

The acquisition of Romero could be a pivotal one for Spurs after losing Alderweireld. The Copa America winner has been a stalwart in Serie A and could bring the same solidity to our backline that has looked shaky in recent seasons.

Hopefully, he proves to be the difference in defence as the Lilywhites target their first major trophy since 2008.
