Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur agree fee with Inter Milan for Lautaro Martinez
According to a report by The Times (Subscription Required), Tottenham Hotspur have agreed to pay a transfer fee in excess of £60million for Inter Milan striker, Lautaro Martinez.
The fee is believed to include add-ons, with the Serie A champions valuing their 23-year-old striker at £76.8million. The plan is apparently to pair him with Harry Kane up front, with Spurs adamant that they will keep the 28-year-old Englishman this season.
This news comes after Chelsea themselves agreed upon a fee of £97.5million for Lautaro’s striker partner at Inter, Romelu Lukaku. It could well be two Inter Milan strikers coming to London in a short span of time.
As for Nerazzurri, it means possibly losing two of their top attackers who were arguably the fuel that powered Antonio Conte’s seamless Scudetto-winning machine last season. Their fans would, however, be encouraged by Fabrizio Romano’s tweet that Inter, despite holding talks with Spurs, plan to keep the striker this season.
Lautaro to London?
Despite it being mentioned that the Argentine is being signed to partner Kane, it would be natural for fans to still let their minds wander off in the direction of seeing their talismanic leader join the reigning Premier League champions.
The England international is the subject of serious interest from Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City. But if Spurs add Martinez to their ranks after already signing his international teammate, Cristian Romero, fans can feel optimistic about the new season.
This would be Fabio Paratici and Daniel Levy’s fourth signing this summer. The club has already seen Romero, Pierluigi Gollini, and Bryan Gil join their ranks for the new campaign.

Despite the inclusion of some quality names in that aforementioned list, Martinez’s signing, especially if Spurs manage to keep Kane, would be the biggest statement signing and a real sign of intent that the club wants to end their 13-year-long trophy drought.
