Transfer News: Leicester City keen on Tottenham Hotspur target Takehiro Tomiyasu
According to a report by The Telegraph (Subscription Required) [h/t football.london], Leicester City are considering a move for Southampton’s Jannik Vestergaard and Tottenham Hotspur target, Takehiro Tomiyasu.
The report states that the Bologna defender is more likely to be pursued by the Foxes. Tomiyasu is, of course, a target for Spurs and has been linked with a move for the majority of this summer.
Speaking in a Q&A session, Alasdair Gold of football.london mentioned that Tomiyasu is a definitive target for Spurs after stating Jules Kounde’s dream destination as Real Madrid.
“Takehiro Tomiyasu is a player Paratici likes and Spurs have held talks over him before. He’s just finished his time at the Olympics with Japan and some people involved in the deal on his side told me a few days ago that they were confident he would become a Tottenham player this window.”
Tomiyasu race heats up
Leicester’s involvement comes after a horror injury for Wesley Fofana in pre-season. The 20-year-old was mowed down by Villareal’s Fer Nino in a friendly game and is now expected to miss much of the new Premier League season.
Jonny Evans’ unavailability is also a factor but Spurs fans would hope that Tomiyasu chooses Spurs despite the Foxes’ potential late entry in the race.
The Japanese international, who can play as a right-back as well as a centre-back, was at the Tokyo Olympics this summer after an impressive season in Serie A with Bologna.

If signed, he would become Spurs’ second defensive signing this summer after the club brought in Cristian Romero from Atalanta. But it remains to be seen if Fabio Paratici can bring this transfer over the line for Spurs or if the Foxes can pounce on the deal in the 11th hour.
