Tottenham working behind the scenes to sign Pau Torres

According to Spanish Journalist Veronica Brunati (h/t The Express), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Villarreal centre-back Pau Torres this summer. Spurs, who are facing the prospect of losing Harry Kane to Man City this summer, are working behind the scenes to complete a deal for Torres.

The 24-year-old recently featured in the UEFA Super Cup final as they lost to Chelsea on penalties. Fabio Paratici is keen on signing another centre-back to cover up for the departure of Toby Alderweireld this summer. Veronica Brunati’s whole tweet read (h/t The Express):

“#ManCity prepares a 150 million euro offer for Harry Kane. The player wants to leave.

“#Tottenham at the same time he works on the hiring of Pau Torres, Villarreal defender.”

Tottenham are trying to sign Pau Torres this summer

Tottenham are keen on not letting Kane leave this summer and signing a player of Torres’ ilk could convince the forward to stay at the club this summer. The North London outfit feel that Torres would be an extremely good fit alongside Cristian Romero, who they signed for £43million.

Tottenham are set to cough up a similar figure for Torres, in the range of £45million. The 24-year-old was initially targeted by Manchester United this summer, who were working out alternatives for Raphael Varane.

However, the Red Devils did end up signing the Frenchman, which has left Tottenham as the sole club in the race to sign Torres this summer. While the North London club do have the funds to bring the Spaniard in, they are also trying to raise money through some player sales before they spend again.
