Transfer News: Tottenham ace Cameron Carter-Vickers eyed by Celtic on deadline day

According to transfer news from the Daily Record (h/t Celtic Star), Celtic are lining up a deadline day move for Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers. The USA international is said to be a target for the Hoops as well as Newcastle but the former are expected to make a move for him on deadline day.

It’s rather surprising to think that Carter-Vickers is still just 23 given how it feels like he has been around forever. The defender is actually a youth product of the club, having joined Tottenham back in 2009. He climbed through the club’s youth ranks steadily to be handed a senior bow in 2016. However, things have not gone well since then.

Over the past four seasons, he has spent time away on loan at six different clubs such as Sheffield United, Ipswich Town, Swansea City, Stoke City, Luton Town and Bournemouth. He featured quite heavily for Bournemouth last season but is now back at Spurs. He was even handed a surprise start against Pacos de Ferreira in the first leg of the UEFA Europa Conference League playoff.

However, he has not been used by manager Nuno Espirito Santo in the Premier League so far, giving an indication of his standing within the squad. There is some interest in the defender with Newcastle and Celtic looking to go after him. It would seem Celtic are the most interested and could come in with a late loan offer for him today.

Tottenham are also hoping to offload him and Celtic could try to get a loan deal with an option to buy within the deadline. Carter-Vickers will see his contract expire at the end of the season, meaning that a sale could also be on the cards otherwise Spurs would lose him for free next year.
