Tottenham on alert as Franck Kessie refuses new AC Milan contract

According to transfer news from La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Football.london), Tottenham have been alerted that Franck Kessie has refused a new contract with AC Milan. Apparently, the Ivorian has turned down an offer of €6.5million despite his current deal ending in less than a year.

Spurs bolstered their midfield this summer with the signing of teenage sensation Pape Matar Sarr. However, his young age means that he is one for the future and Spurs need someone more readymade to partner Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg. Given the problems with Tanguy Ndombele, it’s not entirely illogical that Spurs look for another midfielder.

Enter Franck Kessie. The Ivorian midfielder from AC Milan is the whole package who seems like he can do it all. He has become one of the best players at AC Milan, keeping it tidy at the back while scoring crucial goals as well. His efforts helped AC Milan push to the second spot in the Serie A last season, giving a good fight to rivals Inter.

Now, here is the catch. Kessie’s contract runs out in 2022. That means clubs can approach him for a Bosman transfer within four months. Spurs have been among the clubs interested and the latest development will be music to their ears. The midfielder has rejected a new €6.5million deal from Milan over the weekend, putting his future in doubt.

Tottenham can approach the player in January over a free transfer which could be a huge coup. However, they will need to be wary as the Premier League trio of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are also after the Ivorian ace (h/t Football.london). There might just be a battle for his signature come January or next season.
