Oliver Skipp opens up on realising the dream of playing for the Tottenham senior side
Speaking to an interview with the club, Oliver Skipp elaborated on how it felt to progress from the academy and then play for the Tottenham senior side. The midfielder has made a breakthrough into the first team this season, starting all three games in the league.
It feels proud to see Oliver Skipp marshalling the Spurs midfield. After all, he is one of our own. A Spurs man through and through, Skipp made his way through the academy, got handed his debut for the senior side but was still too young to be playing regularly for the first team back then.
The decision to send him on loan was taken last year and it paid off handsomely. His stint at Norwich prepared him for the challenges of the English game and from what we have seen so far, he looks more than capable at just 20 years of age. Skipp has been handed a chance to stake his claim in the side and he has taken it.
He has started in all the three wins in the league, hardly putting a foot wrong. He finally got a moment to speak about the whole experience and realising the dream of playing for the club.
“It’s hard to put it into words, really. As a Spurs fan, I’ve been to the games, watched players in my position, tried to learn from them, to then be out there wearing that shirt means a lot, to my family, to me.
“I remember walking out of the tunnel against Manchester City and that was one of the best atmospheres I’ve experienced. I remember thinking, ‘wow, this is what it means to everyone’ and what it means to me as well, growing up, you think of all those hours spent at the training ground trying to achieve that dream that, when you’re young, you think, ‘it’s never going to happen’, but I’ve managed to achieve that dream, so it means a lot.”

Skipp’s progression should encourage more youngsters such as Dane Scarlett, Alfie Devine. Now academy players know that the door to the first team is always open if they work hard and have the attitude to keep improving. Skipp has a bright future ahead of him if he continues to keep up these levels.
