Tottenham Hotspur Stadium among the winners of the RIBA National Awards
Tottenham Hotspur have scooped up another award courtesy of their stadium that was among the winners of the RIBA National Awards (h/t Daily Star). The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) is a 180-year-old association that has awarded 54 winners with the prize and our swanky new stadium is among them.
It was quite the wait Spurs fans had to endure for the new stadium, leaving White Hart Lane. Wembley had to host our home games for a while as the new state-of-the-art stadium was under construction. It was not inexpensive either as Spurs had to shell out three times the initial £400m budget.
There were a lot of delays due to safety concerns which pushed the opening date from September 2018 to April 2019. Manchester City were the first side to play Spurs there. A host of improvements were visible as well. Hence it was no surprise that the architecture has now received a total of 17 awards to date.
The latest in line was the RIBA National Awards. The prestigious organization named 54 winners this year at the end of August (h/t Daily Star). One of the best in the world, the stadium has played host to a number of important games so far and not just for Spurs. NFL games have been hosted there as well.

It is truly a magnificent bit of architecture and design and we can proudly claim to have one of the most elite stadiums on the planet. It has come at a huge cost but it has been worth it. Spurs will be hoping they can lift some trophies in this elegant stadium this season or sometime in the near future.
