Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur eyeing a move for Liverpool target Ryan Gravenberch
According to Spanish outlet Fichajes via Caught Offside (h/t Liverpool Echo), Tottenham Hotspur are the latest side to show interest in Liverpool transfer target and Ajax starlet, Ryan Gravenberch.
The report notes that Spurs would look to make a potential move next summer when the teenager has 1 year left on his contract, or in the summer of 2023, when he is a free agent.
Gravenberch is quickly making a big name for himself. The 19-year-old midfielder, apart from being a regular in Ajax Amsterdam’s midfield, was also selected for the Netherlands’ 2020 UEFA Euro squad. The European campaign, however, resulted in an early exit.
Spurs could use an exciting midfielder like Gravenberch, who has his best years still ahead of him. At 19, he has an impressive CV already with two Dutch titles, two Dutch Cup trophies, and one U17 European Championship with the Netherlands.
Spurs playing the waiting game
He can play in central midfield but has played as a defensive midfielder too. If the aforementioned report is to be believed, Spurs would be wise to wait and then make an approach for the Holland international so that they can potentially save some money in transfer fees.
But the waiting game can backfire if other possible suitors swoop in for him first. Nevertheless, the club, at least for now, has an array of quality midfielders at Nuno Espirito Santo’s disposal.
Oliver Skipp is being given some minutes with the first team this season after he impressed at Norwich City, while Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has made himself an immovable rock in Spurs’ midfield.

Harry Winks, Giovani Lo Celso, and Tanguy Ndombele are some of the other options. But the latter is yet to feature this season for the club and with his future uncertain, Gravenberch could well be a potential signing who can hold down a regular place Spurs’ starting XI for years to come.
