Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola hints at Harry Kane regret

According to Express, Manchester City manager, Pep Guardiola gave a vague hint that his side regret not having Tottenham striker Harry Kane. The comments were made after City’s win over Leicester City where the former was frustrated and only a late goal got them all three points.

Not too long ago, Harry Kane was being courted by City. After all, Kane had expressed a desire to leave the club due to not being able to win trophies. Bids came but Spurs held firm that their star man was not going anywhere. In the end, Kane did end staying back and has been reinstated into the side. (h/t Express)

City knew they were not going to get their target when Kane publicly announced that he will remain at the club. They did not push for another striker but had no problems scoring five each against Arsenal and Norwich. However, they have played without a recognised striker on many occasions and Saturday almost cost them.

Against Leicester, City carved out chances but failed to score. It took a late goal from Bernardo Silva to get all three points. Speaking after the game, Pep Guardiola spoke about not having a ‘real striker’ in the side, probably alluding to the fact that they missed out on Kane.

“We don’t have a real striker so we do it as a team. It is a difficult place to come and we know that. Leicester make that step forward to be in the top of the league. We did very many good things. We did really well, the process we found and we let them run a lot. The players were able to be focused and to concentrate. Kasper Schmeichel is a really top keeper so it sometimes happens. The good thing is the amount of chances we create. This is a good thing. Of course, we would have loved to score more goals. We deserve it.”

Spurs will count this as a huge win given Kane’s form. While he did not have the best outing against Crystal Palace, there is no doubting his quality. Kane will be hoping to put the whole saga behind him and get back to doing what he does best. Score buckets of goals.
