Nuno Espirito Santo gives blunt verdict after Tottenham vs Rennes
Speaking at the press conference (h/t Football.london), Tottenham Hotspur manager Nuno Espirito Santo gave his verdict on the draw with Rennes. He praised his players for the draw in those circumstances and also bemoaned the additional injuries.
Spurs showed good grit and determination to take a point from the Conference League game. They started off with a lead but had to make a comeback late in the game. An own goal and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg got Spurs on the scoresheet as Rennes managed to give a good account of themselves. Spurs had to be content with a draw as the home side looked far closer to scoring the winner.
With such a tricky game now over, Spurs will be rather satisfied with the result given the circumstances. Nuno gave his verdict on the game and praised the players for making a comeback.
“Was not perfect. I think we started very well in possession, finding good lines. We scored, then we lost a little bit of control. Rennes is a good team, they caused some problems for us. It is hard to judge all the game with all the circumstances that happened during the game. But I think we finished well, we showed a lot of character and belief to change the result after we conceded. In the end I think we were in control. A hard team to play, a hard pitch to play, but the attitude was good… a lot of players out of position so it is hard to analyse and be fair.”
Spurs had two more casualties
Spurs endured two more injuries with Steven Bergwijn and Lucas Moura. It adds to the existing number of injuries. On being asked about the issue and whether they would be fit for the next game, here is what Nuno had to say (h/t Football.london).
“It feels painful, it feels really bad. I cannot tell you. They are being taken care of by the medical department. But it’s been tough.”
