Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur emerge as shock contenders for Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger

According to transfer news from Calciomercato (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur have emerged as shock contenders for Antonio Rudiger. Although the clubs share a huge rivalry, there is the possibility that Rudiger crosses the divide. Juventus and PSG are the two other sides after him.

Tottenham got a taste of what Antonio Rudiger is all about. Not only did they fail to break past him in defence but also conceded a goal from his header. Hence the interest from Spurs is understandable. However, this goes back long before this season as the club have kept tabs on him. That interest in the 28-year-old has now resurfaced.

Nuno Espirito Santo is said to be keen on improving his defence and identified Rudiger as the one to do so. Earlier, Juventus and PSG were after him but now, Spurs have shockingly put themselves in contention for his signature. Although, there is a good chance that a potential deal might not take place.

Tottenham and Chelsea’s rivalry goes beyond their players and fans. Their head honchos are also not quite very warm to each other (h/t Express). We are talking about Daniel Levy and Marina Granovskaia, two of the biggest decision-makers for their respective clubs. And the duo prefers to avoid any direct communication with each other, putting several question marks over a deal.

Both these London clubs have not conducted much business with each other in the past and there are several instances where they left the other in the cold over players. Willian and Luka Modric’s cases come to mind. Given the rivalry on and off the pitch, there might be a very slim possibility of Rudiger crossing the divide.
