Paul Robinson tips Tottenham to let go of Harry Winks
Speaking to Football Insider (h/t Birmingham Live), Paul Robinson wants Tottenham Hotspur to let go of Harry Winks. With Winks featuring on a sporadic basis, the former Spurs and England keeper wants the club to sanction a possible sale for the midfielder.
It has not panned out the way Harry Winks or anyone at Tottenham wanted in terms of the former’s time at the club. All that early burst of talent and potential has taken a back seat. Now, the 25-year-old finds himself on the periphery of the side. It is not that he has not been given chances but he has failed to impress largely during that time.
The Englishman was, apparently, a target for Aston Villa during the transfer window but Spurs’ steep valuation of £40 million swayed their minds. Everton were also said to be after him. Winks has been afforded limited time this season and if his display against Crystal Palace is anything to go by, it might be a while before he is pushed back into the side.
With Winks on the fringes now, former Spurs and England keeper Paul Robinson has urged Tottenham to sanction a sale for the former.
“Winks needs a break. He needs to go to a club week in, week out. If Nuno does not have him as a big part of his plans then he needs to leave and play regularly. Wherever that may be. He is a player that I rate very, very highly. I think he gets into most other Premier League teams.”
Robinson also addressed the fact that no club would pay the aforementioned amount for Winks and that his valuation will drop with so little game time on offer.
“Winks is never injured, he is always available and is capable of producing seven, eight out of ten performances on a weekly basis when he is given a run of games. Let’s be honest, £40m is a lot for a player that isn’t getting a game. A player is only worth what another club is willing to pay. I think that price tag will drop significantly because there were obviously no willing buyers at that price in the summer.”

In hindsight, Tottenham should have sold Winks. Now, it might get a bit more difficult with the midfielder not in form and not getting games. The midfielder has not lived up to his potential but is still a quality squad option. Nuno Espirito Santo will have to sort out the situation soon instead of letting the player stew.
