Tottenham Hotspur legend Darren Anderton has backed Nuno Espirito Santo to do a good job at the club

Speaking in an interview with MyBettingSites (h/t The Sun), Tottenham Hotspur legend Darren Anderton has backed Nuno Espirito Santo to come through for the club if he is given the time to do so.

Things have not been pleasant for Tottenham since the departure of Mauricio Pochettino in November 2019. Although Jose Mourinho was trusted to inculcate a winning mentality at the club, he was sacked earlier this year, just before the club’s EFL Cup final.

The managerial role was handed to former Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo this summer, and things looked on the up at the start of the season. Spurs won all three of their opening Premier League games and were top of the table before the international break.

Although things have derailed slightly after losing thrice in the league since then, club legend Darren Anderton has backed Nuno to do a good job at the North London outfit. Anderton told MyBettingSites (h/t The Sun):

“I’m excited to see what Nuno Espirito Santo can do at Tottenham if he’s given time. The reality is we are so lucky to have had Mauricio Pochettino, and I didn’t agree with getting rid of him. Under [Jose] Mourinho it was a disappointing time, going from watching excellent football to being a Mourinho team.

“Nuno was such an important appointment, and Spurs got a lot of stick for how long it took, but they got the right man. People say that he wasn’t first choice, but I believe that he is a top manager.”

The 47-year-old boss has made fine additions to his squad this summer and has also performed well in the Cup games. Thus, if given time, there is a very real possibility that the Portuguese manager will come through for the club and perhaps achieve success as well.
