Injury news: Aston Villa duo Morgan Sanson and Leon Bailey ruled out for PL clash vs Tottenham Hotspur

According to BirminghamLive, Aston Villa will be without first-team stars Leon Bailey and Morgan Sanson for their trip to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this weekend.

The duo is suffering from muscle injury and Dean Smith, speaking to VillaTV (h/t BirminghamLive), expressed his optimism about their early return. That, however, will not be in time for their game against Spurs.

“They’re recovering well, they’ve both had muscle strains. Only minimal muscle strains but we have to make sure they’re right and there’s not any re-injury. It’s been tough for both of them because both of them have missed pre-season and you’re susceptible to getting injuries then because you’re playing catch up.”

Dutch winger Steven Bergwijn and English starlet Ryan Sessegnon remain sidelined for Spurs. There is no clarity over whether they will feature against Aston Villa but it is highly unlikely that they do after being ruled out of the UEFA Conference League game against Mura.

Boost for Spurs

The Villans are coming on the back of two wins, the most recent of those being a 1-0 triumph over Manchester United. There is no doubt that Dean Smith’s 8th-placed Aston Villa would be in a much more buoyant mood than Spurs.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have lost three league games in a row, including an embarrassing 3-1 loss against Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal in the North London derby. After going into the initial international break leading the pack, Spurs are now 11th in the table.

Last season’s encounter at home ended in a defeat for Spurs against Villa. They would hope it’s different this time around and that they go into another long international break with a win under their belt.
