Lucas Moura backed by Brazil legend Rivaldo to still succeed at Tottenham Hotspur
Speaking to Betfair (h/t football.london), Brazil legend Rivaldo expressed his faith in Lucas Moura to rejuvenate his Tottenham Hotspur career after a poor run of form.
The 29-year-old Spurs forward has been impressive in patches but has rarely made himself one of the first names on the team sheet since his move from Paris Saint-Germain in January 2018.
His career’s high point would be the hat-trick he scored against Ajax Amsterdam in the 2018/19 UEFA Champions League semi-final to fire Spurs into the final, which they went on to lose vs Liverpool.
But since then, he has failed to build on that. And Rivaldo believes that a lack of minutes at the club and being snubbed from Selecao would be frustrating for the ex-Sao Paulo forward.
“Moura was not called up for Brazilian national team again and he might be a little frustrated with that. Since that magical night in Amsterdam in 2019, when he scored a hat-trick against Ajax in the Champions League, he had greater expectations about playing more regularly for his club and national team.”
No Brazil call-up for Lucas
Nevertheless, the FIFA World Cup winner with Brazil believes Lucas can come out of this poor run of form to rejuvenate his career at N17.
“…he is still a great player and an excellent person that I had the opportunity to play with at São Paulo FC. So I’m sure that he will find a way to come back from this troubled patch and return to helping Spurs to turn around their results.”
Spurs were terrible in their 3-1 loss against Arsenal and Moura has had his fair share of critics in the past few weeks after Nuno Espirito Santo’s side have lost three games on the trot.
