Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur face competition from PSG and Manchester United for Marcelo Brozovic

According to transfer news from Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Manchester Evening News), Tottenham Hotspur are facing competition from PSG and Manchester United for Marcelo Brozovic.

The Croatian midfielder has made quite a name for himself at Inter Milan and was a vital part of Antonio Conte’s Serie A-winning team last season. But as it stands, the 28-year-old will be a free agent next summer; granted he does not renew his current deal.

The Red Devils are linked with Declan Rice and Kalvin Phillips apart from Brozovic, and Spurs fans would hope that United’s attention is focused on the Premier League duo instead of the Croat.

The report mentions that Spurs, alongside Paris Saint-Germain, are readying a £99,000-a-week contract for him. Nuno Espirito Santo doesn’t have a shortage of quality midfielders, at least on paper.

Brozovic to Spurs?

Tanguy Ndombele, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Harry Winks, Oliver Skipp, and Giovani Lo Celso are all players adept at playing as central midfielders.

But with Ndombele failing to gain Nuno’s trust when it comes to getting regular stars, and Moussa Sissoko leaving the club this summer, a case can be made for Spurs to get in a fresh face in midfield. Brozovic would be a useful addition in that regard.

A FIFA World Cup finalist with Croatia and a Serie A winner with I Nerazzurri, Brozovic’s experience and quality speak for themselves. Moreover, at 28, the midfielder is pretty much in the prime years of his career.

If Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici are indeed angling towards getting in Brozovic, they would also hope that he chooses to run down his current contract so that they can open negotiations with him as early as January over a free transfer in the summer.
