Tottenham Hotspur’s Bryan Gil included in Spain national team for UEFA Nations League squad after Marcos Llorente injury

According to a tweet by the Spanish FA’s Twitter account, as relayed by Tottenham Hotspur, Bryan Gil has been included in the Spain national team after an injury to Marcos Llorente.

The Atletico Madrid star has made a big name for himself under Diego Simeone and his versatility makes him a great asset for club and country. But an injury in Atletico’s 2-0 win against Barcelona means Llorente is ruled out for this international break.

Instead of him, 20-year-old Gil has made the cut. The former Sevilla winger made the move to Tottenham this summer in a deal that saw Erik Lamela head to La Liga.

Since then, he has represented Spain in the Olympics and is now set to be included in their squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League semi-final against Italy. The two teams go head-to-head in Milan as they aim to earn the right to face either Belgium or France in the final later this month.

Spurs’ official club account also congratulated Gil on his late inclusion as they wrote in a tweet, “Congratulations, @11BryanGil!”

Gil hasn’t had a lot of favour under Nuno Espirito Santo as of now. The youngster has only made sporadic substitute appearances in the Premier League football and revealed recently that the club has asked him to put on weight in order to get accustomed to the league.

But in all honesty, deploying him as a starter straightaway might not have been the main motive behind getting the 20-year-old at N17.

Spurs have several wingers that can man the flanks and Gil, still just 20, could have a bigger role to play in the future. His call-up to the Spain squad further underlines his ability and hopefully is the start of something big for the player in London.
