How Can Tottenham Replace Harry Kane if He Leaves?

Published

on

Earlier this summer, Tottenham Hotspur believed they’d finally found the answer regarding their Harry Kane conundrum. After months of hushed talk, Kane eventually signaled his intent to remain at the club. But the question is, for how long?

It’s clear to see that Kane isn’t yet on his game, with off-field issues either still frustrating the striker or taking his focus away from the task at hand. Premier League pundits have criticised Kane’s mindset in his games so far, and it’s easy to see why.

In cup competitions, Kane has performed with six goals from four games combined between domestic and European competitions. However, it’s in the league where Kane has failed to shine when he’s been needed the most.

So far, the 28-year-old has played six games for Spurs, failing to score at all, which is highly concerning given his stature and previous performances. For example, Kane scored 23 goals last season in the Premier League, and if he’s to get anywhere near that this season, then he needs to find his scoring boots quickly.

Kane is central to Tottenham’s future. Without him, their chances of success will certainly lessen. At the start of the season, the top six was the aim for them, with bookmakers pricing them as adequate contenders to fulfil this expectation.

Current Standings

The highly prolific North London club have done well to establish themselves as formidable opponents in previous years, drawing faithful fans in the form of celebrities like Adele, Iranian-Canadian actor Ramin Karimloo, Lord Sugar and even unusual famous A-listers like American ex-wrestler Dave Bautista.

Evidently, Spurs draw in audiences from across the globe, with an estimated 180 million from overseas. With the increasing access to live streaming options in different time zones, courtesy of numerous betting providers, it’s easy for fans to watch the team. Naturally, these bookmakers provide a range of markets, as well as promotions and numerous payment methods to attract customers and be as convenient as possible. Therefore, it can be hard for customers to work out the best option for them, so review sites provide objective judgements on bookmakers such as  in order to aid the consumer through this journey. Spurs fans across the globe in Australia can take advantage of sites such as this to see their beloved team in action.

It’s perhaps unsurprising to see, then, that there’s fallout from fans all over following the Kane controversies this summer. British fans aren’t the only ones to hold their heads in shame and fear as to the prognosis for the season ahead: the Premier League campaign for Tottenham has already been marred by the inconsistent performances of their star player, which hasn’t done his reputation any good after the upheaval in the summer.

Should Kane decide to leave, how can Tottenham replace him? This will bring back memories of the Gareth Bale transfer for Spurs fans, as reported back in 2013 on the BBC, and there are two clear choices that the club has to choose from.

Replace With Multiple Players

The first option, and most likely to happen, is that Kane will be replaced by multiple players. This is the route that Kane took when Bale left the club for Real Madrid, and although not every player coming in worked out, some certainly did.

For instance, Spurs found Luka Modric during this time, although he nearly signed elsewhere as covered by the Independent. Obviously, he has since moved on, but unearthing a player of that standard would be key to working out whether they win or lose the Kane transfer, if it happens.

Replace With Single Player

The second option for the North London club would be to replace Kane with one player. However, the club simply doesn’t have the pulling power to do that. They’re not in the Champions League and at this moment don’t appear to be heading back there anytime soon. Rumours have circulated to suggest that this is a major reason for Kane wanting to leave the club, and it surely won’t help with others coming in.

Players from the top Premier League clubs are out of reach, and others around Europe are likely to have better options than Tottenham if they are on the move.

Although fans may not want to hear it, the team isn’t able to compete for anyone big right now. Therefore, bringing in three or four players seems the only possible way for them to go. What they need to do is spend £20-30 million on each player they buy, and hope to unearth a gem that will allow them to kick on and compete for the top four again.

Ditching a corporate job to follow a dream isn’t easy, but when football comes calling, who can say no? Been following the beautiful game since 1998.
