Tottenham Hotspur joined by Chelsea and Liverpool in race to secure a deal for Inter Milan ace Nicolo Barella
According to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur are in a three-horse battle with Premier League rivals Chelsea and Liverpool to sign Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella.
The 24-year-old has been incredible for the Nerazzurri since becoming a part of the first team in 2019. Last season alone, the Italian made 46 appearances across all competitions for the Serie A outfit and scored 3 goals, and provided a further 13 assists in the same period. His contributions played a huge role in Inter picking up their first Scudetto in a decade, thereby making him a fan favourite.
The midfielder went on to star for the national team at the Euros this summer as he made vital contributions to Italy lifting the trophy after defeating England in the final.
Into the new season and Barella has not allowed his levels to drop as he has featured in 9 games and has already provided 5 assists and scored 1 goal.
Thus, it is understandable why Spurs are interested in signing a talent like the Italian. The North London club currently possess the likes of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele and Oliver Skipp, and Harry Winks in the midfield line, but additions could be made.
The club are yet to replace Moussa Sissoko, who left the club this summer while Winks is also thought to be angling for a move away from Tottenham in January. Thus, Barella could certainly add to the options in Spurs’ ranks and provide a lot of quality in the centre of the pitch.

However, they will have to fend off the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea to secure his services, who are also eager on a deal. Moreover, despite Inter’s struggling financial issues, they are planning on offering the 24-year-old a new contract. While there are several obstacles to this deal, Fabio Paratici could work his magic wand in the transfer market again if Tottenham really want to sign the midfielder.
