Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier gives his verdict on the club’s summer signings
The North Londoners enjoyed a late start to their transfer business but got a number of deals over the line. One of the players who made their way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium was Cristian Romero.
The reigning Serie A defender of the season, the Argentine international was a rock at the back for Atalanta last season. He is slowly yet steadily making himself at home in North London. Romero starred in the club’s win over Aston Villa last week, finishing just his second full game for the Spurs.
Dier has played alongside Romero thrice and is a fan of his new teammate’s exploits. He has backed the 23-year-old to become a key player for the club in the years to come.
“I think he’s going to be a fantastic player for the club.”
The Spurs star goes on to further praise the attributes that Romero has. One does not become the best player in his position in a league such as Serie A without being special. It would appear it is not just the fans who are sold on Romero. Dier too appears to be in the same boat.
“He’s very aggressive, very much on the front foot and very clever as well, the way he uses his body, the way he reads the game.”
Romero was not the only player to join the club in the summer. Pierluigi Gollini, Bryan Gil and Emerson Royal have all joined Nuno Espirito Santo’s new looks Tottenham side. Teenage sensation Pape Matar Sarr too joined the club but returned to Metz on a season-long loan.
Dier is clearly impressed with his new teammates and has nothing but good things to say about them. Hopefully, they will push on and go on to become key players for us in the years to come.

Romero is certainly the signing of the summer. Having lost Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld, it was imperative that we add a dependable defender to the squad. The club appears to have done just that.
