Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur face competition from Juventus and Newcastle United for Mauro Icardi

According to Mail on Sunday (h/t Sky Sports), Tottenham Hotspur face fresh competition from Newcastle United for Paris Saint-Germain hitman, Mauro Icardi.

The Magpies have recently had a change in ownership and their Saudi owners could well make them a force in the transfer market. And one striker they have their eye on is Argentina international, Mauro Icardi.

Spurs are also linked with the former Inter Milan captain while Juventus are also eyeing a potential deal after a summer that saw them sell Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United. Icardi’s talent isn’t really up for debate.

During his time in Serie A, he was one of the most potent strikers in the land. But since his move to Parc des Princes in 2019, he has lost his status as a pinned starter and rotates for game-time with other forwards at PSG.

Icardi to Spurs?

Tottenham already have Harry Kane within their ranks. Already a living legend at the age of 28, it is unthinkable that the Englishman would be replaced by any other striker in Spurs starting XI, at least in the near future.

But Icardi, if signed with Kane still at the club, could be paired in a formation with two strikers. Moreover, he could be a direct replacement for the England captain as he could leave the club amidst long-standing interest from Manchester City.

But to land Icardi, Spurs would have to compete with the Toons and the Old Lady. Spurs could use a striker like Icardi, who has the experience and is still just 28.

Currently, only Lucas Moura acts as a viable centre-forward replacement in Kane’s absence considering Son Heung-min is a staple selection for Nuno Espirito Santo down the left flank.
