Cristian Romero speaks about his decision on joining Tottenham Hotspur and adapting to the Premier League

In an interview with Sky Sports, Cristian Romero talked about why he chose to join Tottenham Hotspur in the summer and adjusting to life in English conditions.

The 23-year-old played for Atalanta BC before making the £47 million switch to the Lilywhites. He was an instrumental part of the Italian club where he scored 3 goals and provided 5 assists in 42 games across all competitions. He has started the last 3 games for Spurs and even won the Man of the Match award in their latest EFL Cup win against Burnley.

The Argentinian defender seems to be creating inroads into the North London club and cementing his place in central defense along with Eric Dier. Adapting to conditions in England is not easy for any young, foreign player but the centre-back seems to be making great progress with each passing game.

Cristian Romero is slowly becoming an integral part of Tottenham Hotspur

Romero highlighted the fact that he was slowly settling into his new club in North London:

“Slowly but surely, I’m feeling more at home here. It’s not something that would happen overnight and every change of environment requires a period of adapting. I’m feeling good at the moment and hopefully, I can continue playing at this level.”

The former Genoa player came under the scanner for an incident that involved a harsh tackle on Pablo Fornals in their last PL fixture against West Ham United. The 23-year-old was quick to admit his fault and even suggested that the Spanish professional footballer was a great guy.

Romero got a yellow card for the incident which may have tarnished his overall performance in the match. The South American player was linked to rival PL clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United.

The former Atalanta defender also mentioned Giovani Lo Celso and how the Argentine midfielder has helped him settle at Spurs:

“Gio [Lo Celso] has helped me to settle in and I like having him as a team-mate for both club and country……But he didn’t influence my decision to join. It was fully my decision to come to Tottenham as it’s a big club playing in the best league in the world.”

Nuno Espirito Santo would be under a lot of pressure but it seems like he is finally nailing down on his favoured centre-back duo with Dier and Cristian Romero. The Supporters will be hoping that the Argentian defender would put in such performances and make a substantial impact throughout the season.
