Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have the edge over Arsenal in the pursuit of Dusan Vlahovic

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Express), the Tottenham Hotspur board ‘assured’ Antonio Conte that they’re optimistic about signing Dusan Vlahovic in January.

Dusan Vlahovic has been one of the stand-out players at ACF Fiorentina. He has been giving good performances consistently for the Italian side. Despite his incredible performances, Fiorentina had a disappointing run in the previous season, finishing 13th on the table.

The Serbian international has two years left in his contract, but his plans lie somewhere else. It is believed that he has already expressed his feelings, and La Viola would look to ship him out in exchange for a hefty transfer sum.

Previously, Arsenal expressed their desire to bring the 21-years-old player to Emirates stadium. According to Gianluca Di Marzio (h/t Express), they were ready to offer £68million to capture the move. The Gunners wanted the player to replace Alexandre Lacazette, whose contract is coming to an end soon.

This could be an excellent opportunity for Spurs to capture the player as they are looking to hire a backup for their crucial striker, Harry Kane. This season the English captain’s goalscoring run took a hit as he had only netted one goal so far in 9 games for the London team.

It is believed that Conte has been ‘assured’ by the board about their confidence in signing Vlahovic in the winter transfer window. This can be fruitful for Spurs as the new era under coach Antonio Conte is about to begin. The Serbian hitman can play alongside Kane or even as a lone striker if the Englishman is to leave N17 in the future.

However, it remains to be seen if Spurs are willing to splash the cash, especially when there are other positions on the field that need addressing such as in defence and attacking midfield.
