Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is interested in signing Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie
According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is keen on getting 23-year-old Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie.
The Italian manager supposedly rates the American Professional footballer very highly and wants to bring him to North London in January. McKennie has played 59 matches for the Turin-based club during which he has scored eight goals and provided three assists across all competitions.
The 52-year-old Spurs manager rates the 23-year-old midfielder very highly as sees him as the next Arturo Vidal. The FC Schalke 04 player is valued at £22.5million according to Transfermarkt (h/t Football.London).
The youngster could help invigorate the midfielder for Spurs with Conte already trying to instil his intense attacking style of play at the Lane. The Lilywhites were struggling to maintain consistency under the former manager Nuno Espirito Santo and would be hoping that the former Inter Milan boss can take them in a new direction.
The former Chelsea boss hasn’t wasted any time in stamping his authority and has enforced strict dietary rules for his squad. His grueling training sessions are also said to be physically demanding on the squad.
Santo used to prefer a double pivot during his time which mainly consisted of Pierre Emile Hojbjerg and Oliver Skipp, but Conte’s preferred system usually involves a back three which could leave room for another mercurial player in midfield.
McKennie could be a great addition to the North London club given his potential abilities. The 23-year-old may take some time to get used to the pace and physicality of the Premier League, but he could be a great asset if developed properly.
