Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has shown an interest in signing Ajax Amsterdam goalkeeper Andre Onana
According to 90mins (h/t Express), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte has asked Fabio Paratici to sign 25-year-old Andre Onana from Ajax Amsterdam.
The shot-stopper rose to glory in the 2018/19 season as the Dutch club had one of their most memorable runs in the UEFA Champions League in recent time. They reached the semifinal stage before being eliminated by Tottenham in a dramatic fashion.
The Dutch professional footballer has been linked to the likes of Arsenal and Inter Milan too. His current contract with the Dutch club expires next summer and it seems unlikely that he will sign a new contract with them.
Onana has been part of a looming controversy and hasn’t featured for de Godenzonen since January. He was given a suspension for testing positive for a banned substance called furosemide.
His initial one-year ban was reduced to nine months after appeal. Ajax have seemed to rediscover their old form once again and impressing in the Champions League. The Cameroonian professional footballer could be a great addition to the Lilywhites given his stellar experience. The 25-year-old has played more than 200 games for the Dutch club across all competitions till now.
Hugo Lloris is the current first-choice keeper for Spurs but will be out of contract with the North Londoners at the end of the season. The French international is 34-years-old at the moment and the club may be forced to look out for younger options to replace him.
Tottenham Hotspur were also being linked to Sam Johnstone in recent times as his experience in the Premier League could be of big help. That being said Conte loves to play from the back and Onana is the kind of player that would be adept in such a system.
