Antonio Conte gets January transfer window boost at Tottenham Hotspur due to FFP
According to the Daily Mail (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur boss Antonio Conte has been given a financial boost in the January transfer window due to the club’s legroom to operate within the Financial Fair Play regulations.
Daniel Levy hasn’t been the most extravagant spender in the transfer market in the past few years, especially when Mauricio Pochettino was at the helm. The club made shrewd signings and found a couple of talented academy players to assume a role in the starting XI for the senior side.
However, the arrival of Conte could switch things up as the appointment goes to show the change in ambition at the top. He is one of those managers that can deliver success if backed.
Due to the lack of spending in recent years, Spurs can spend up to £400million in January and still be under the FFP guidelines. While it is unreasonable to expect that amount of spending in January, we could see a different approach from them to satisfy their desires for titles.
Kieran Maguire, the one who calculated the valuation, has said that the North London club is an example of a business model rather than a trophy-winning model. This perfectly describes what the club has been going through the past few years.
While the players and the coaching staff have had their faults, it is a tough ask to compete at the very top. With more leverage to spend than other Premier League clubs, they should do their best to support the Italian manager.
