Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is interested in Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt

According to Calciomercato (h/t The Shields Gazette), Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte wants 22-year-old Juventus defender Matthijs de Ligt.

The former Ajax Amsterdam defender had to suffer a difficult start to his life at Turin. that being said the young centre-back has become an instrumental part of the Serie A club’s backline since.

The Dutch defender has already made 87 appearances for the Bianconneri across all competitions, scoring six goals and providing two assists during that time. The youngster has already gained a wealth of experience at 22, being in close contact with the likes of seasoned defenders like Leonardo Bonucci and Giorgio Chiellini.

de Ligt had previously made more than 100 appearances for de Godenzonen and even donned the captain’s armband for them. Conte is believed to be interested in the 22-year-old centre-back.

The Italian manager has had substantial experience with Serie A during his time at Juventus and Inter Milan. This compounded with Fabio Paratici’s past experience with Juventus could help their cause further.

Paratici has been adept at bringing exciting players from Serie A into the squad and he recently managed to lure Cristian Romero and Pierluigi Gollini to N-17, albeit on loan deals with the option to purchase later on. The 23-year-old Atalanta BC defender is already starting to cement his place at Tottenham Hotspur.

Spurs have a relatively young backline with Eric Dier being their most experienced defender at 27. That being said, de Ligt and his experience at the elite level could help shore up things at the back. It would also be a great long-term asset for the North Londoners.
