Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura reveals the intense training sessions under Antonio Conte
Speaking in the club’s matchday programme for the Leeds game (h/t football.london), Tottenham Hotspur star Lucas Moura has revealed that Antonio Conte takes high-intensity training sessions.
The Italian manager joined the North London outfit at the end of last month. He picked up his first league victory recently as Spurs came from behind to defeat Leeds United.
Daniel James scored first for the visitors before Pierre Emile Hojbjerg, and Sergio Reguilon sealed all three points for the home side. However, this performance has come after the high-intensity training sessions Conte likes his players to go through.
Lucas Moura has started every game under the 52-year-old, and he recently described the training sessions. He explained in the club’s matchday programme for the Leeds United game (h/t football.london):
“It has been a very good first couple of weeks with Antonio… We can see Antonio is a winner; he has a great passion for football, and he wants us to feel this. The training sessions have been very, very hard, but that is Conte’s style, and he loves that – the high intensity.
“He is teaching us where to be on the pitch…It is not about teaching us how to play. He is teaching us the necessary movements and how to see football, like always having more than one option to play… He wants to work with us and keep up that high intensity as much as possible during a game.”
Moura’s comments come as no surprise given Conte’s reputation. The Italian is a hard taskmaster and expects nothing short of perfection from his players.
Unlike several of Tottenham’s previous appointments, Conte is a proven winner. He has won multiple Serie A clubs with multiple Italian clubs. His CV in the Premier League is not bad either, winning the league title and FA Cup in two seasons. However, it takes hours of training sessions to understand his methods and playing style.
