Tottenham lead Bayern and Man United in the race to sign Ligue 1 playmaker
Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur want Lovro Majer amidst Bayern Munich and Manchester United interest
According to FourFourTwo (h/t Football.London), Tottenham Hotspur are interested in getting the services of Stade Rennes star Lovro Majer amidst interest from Bayern Munich and Manchester United. He is already getting touted as the “next Luka Modric”, which would put significant pressure on him at such an early stage in his career.
Majer joined Rennes in the summer transfer window for £10million after he had left Dinamo Zagreb. Having impressed them in his time in Russia, the Ligue 1 club promptly took the chance to sign him and add him to their squad. Should he live up to the expectations, the transfer amount would look like a bargain and they can even turn a profit if they sell the attacking midfielder to any of the potential suitors.
The Croatian has played in 10 matches this season and has scored one while assisting two in the process. Tottenham are leading the race for his signature, which says a lot considering there is also interest from the Red Devils and the Bavarian giants.

Spurs would have to be on their toes at all times to not be on the blindside in the transfer race. But any move for him could be costly in the January transfer window as Daniel Levy could have to pay thrice the amount paid by the French club.
Would he fit?
The team has struggled to create chances this season, and that has remained the same under Conte. Relegation contenders like Newcastle United and Burnley have scored more league goals this term as compared to us, which tells us what the club is going through.

Harry Kane’s struggle to score in the Premier League is well known, and much of it could be due to the lack of a creative outlet. Dele Alli failed to take his chance against NS Mura and has looked a shadow of his former self.
Tanguy Ndombele is not consistent enough with his performances and was one of the worst performers against Mura. The Italian boss has tried to use Lucas Moura in a central role with Son Heung-Min and Kane ahead of him, but it has not delivered the desired result.

Giavani Lo Celso is the only other option. However, he is currently out due to picking up an injury during the international break. He has failed to meet the expectations since his move but has looked lively in the short time he has played under Conte.
So, a move for Majer would not be ill-advised. And if turns out to be even half the player Luka Modric was during his time at the White Hart Lane, then we would have some player on our hands- that is, of course, if we manage to sign him in the future.
