Eric Dier reveals what Antonio Conte said to them at Tottenham Hotspur
Eric Dier is one of those players who has been a regular for Antonio Conte since he arrived at Tottenham Hotspur. The former plays in the middle of a three-man defence where he covers the space between the wide centre-backs and orchestrates the build-up through incisive passes.
Dier has played in every single match this season for Conte, and the only game he did not start was against NS Mura in the UEFA Europa Conference League. He also played the full 90 minutes against Brentford in the Premier League, where he helped his team attain an important clean sheet.
Speaking to the club’s media (h/t Tottenham Hotspur official website), the defender opened up on life under the Italian and the message the team received from the coach. He seemed excited and brimmed with positivity when he talked about the 52-year-old boss after the Italian led them to their first victory in a London derby earlier this week.
“The message is very simple. We need to work very hard and try to improve as quickly as possible as a team, put ourselves in a much better position, a position that, if we believe we should be there, to go out and show it every day in training, and take that into games.”
“I’m really enjoying it, to get the chance to work under a manager of Antonio’s calibre, with his history, is a great experience for any player, a great opportunity to improve and learn. I’m really excited for it. It’s been a really good four or five weeks.”
The Right Track
During the last days of Nuno Espirito Santo, there was a gloomy feeling around the club, largely due to our poor results. The players looked uninspired, but the current situation under Conte is a sharp contrast. The former Inter Milan coach has instilled positivity and a belief that we can achieve our goals with proper work ethic and passion.
The road to improving the squad has not been easy as games against Vitesse Arnhem, Everton and Mura have proved so. However, improvements are noticeable, which gets reflected in the squad’s mentality.

The way we dispatched Thomas Frank’s side was spectacular and it was one of our best performances this season. Collectively we looked great, and we seem to have found the solution to our creative issues, at least for now.
All in all, we fans have also been filled with hope that we could end up having a great season. And if that is to happen, 27-year-old Dier and co would have to be sharp at the back. A good defence is a characteristic of an Antonio Conte side, and from what it looks like right now, the England international is set to play an important role in it.
