Transfer News: Tottenham Hotspur have initiated talks with Juventus to sign Dejan Kulusevski

According to Italian outlet Calciomercato (h/t ESPN), Tottenham have made their first move for Dejan Kulusevski by opening transfer talks with Juventus as they look to sign him on loan with an option to make the move permanent.

Dejan Kulusevski’s Juventus career isn’t going smoothly. The Sweden international has attracted speculation over his future at Turin after only getting three starts this season. Despite featuring in 18 matches across all competitions, his goal scoring abilities have declined, and he has only bagged one goal in the process.

Tottenham have been linked with the 21-year-old attacker in recent times. However, the West Londoners face severe competition from Arsenal. Now, it is believed that both the Premier League teams have ‘opened talks’ with the Juventus board for a possible loan move involving the Swede.

It is believed that the player is valued at €35m. However, Massimiliano Allegri’s club would be inclined to go as low as €25m. The North London team certainly lacks depth in the forward line. Antonio Conte’s preferable 3-4-3 formation has seen Lucas Moura, Son Heung-min and Harry Kane make up the forward lineup. However, Spurs don’t have much competition in that area.

The Italian manager previously suggested how essential it is to start Harry Kane in every game despite a hectic schedule as there are no alternatives in the team for him. Steven Bergwijn is yet to become a robust forward option, whereas Jack Clarke and Bryan Gil need some grooming to be part of Conte’s plan.

The intensity and competitiveness of top-level football sometimes tire the legs and attracts injury threats. And given Kulusevski’s versatility, he can slot down the right flank as well as down the middle.

Amidst such a situation, Kulusevski could become a viable alternative. He could strengthen the squad and become a starter if he regains his form under the former Chelsea manager.

While he would not be an option to deploy for Spurs during this December period, signing him in the near future would mean that Conte has added depth to help him navigate through congested clusters of fixtures without overburdening his attack too much. And with Conte and Fabio Paratici both having worked for Juventus in the past, it wouldn’t be wrong to think that they possibly have a line of communication with a few people at the Allianz Stadium.
